As the new TRARON Lead, I'd
like to do a couple of things.
First.
Second. For those that don't know me, I have been flying warbirds since the early 80's when I owned a PT-26. Shortly thereafter I went in the "real" Air Force and flew the F-16 after pilot training in Misawa, Japan. After three years there, I came back to west Texas and was a T-38 IP at Reese AFB in "Lubbock-by-the-Sea". I got my Harvard in 1999. Since then I've done airshows up and down the east coast in J's Bird, including Midland three times. I also sponsor the P-51 Red Nose and have flown her in airshows a time or two also.
Third, and now the important part. Bob Mitchell has expressed his desire to move on too. In his place, Doug Matthews has agreed to help out for a year and Bob will stay until the dues flurry is over about March (Thank you more than you know Bob) and then there can be an orderly transition. (So get your dues paid). However, Doug is only a reprieve, not a replacement – so, this is the first call for a volunteer to take over as Secretary/ Treasurer starting in 2007 and having about a year to learn the job. OK, that was three things. I’ve got one more. Right now, I know of only a few clinics planned. Riverside in January. NATA will do Sebring and somewhere before Oshkosh. There’s Merced. And we’ll have Odessa prior to AirSho, of course. WE NEED MORE!
TRARON will help with any local clinic you guys want to hold, we will get you instructors/check pilots. All it takes is a 4-ship and an airport willing to work with you. Ideally, you should plan on a ground school Friday evening and as much flying as you can get in on Saturday and Sunday. Considering this, there are two groups at least thinking about it: the Dixie Wing in Georgia and the National Capital Squadron in the VA/MD area. Anybody interested in more should contact me at skipperh@earthlink.net and please put "FAST" in the subject line before I spam you out. John "Skipper" Hyle |
