August 2, 2010

Dear Traron Members,

I have just had contact with the leadership of the desert Squadron in Odessa, TX.  We have been invited to enjoy their hospitality for our upcoming formation clinic prior to Airsho 2010.  The folks at the Desert Squadron have hosted our clinic for many years and have always been wonderful to us.  They have a terrific facility that they have allowed us to use and have always fed us great food while we are there.  I look forward to seeing all our friends there over the period of October 6-7-8, 2010.  We are planning to hold the clinic starting on Wednesday evening and running thru Friday afternoon.  I hope to hold the ground school for newbies and lead upgrades on Wednesday evening.   We tried that last year, but the weather was so bad that no one got there.  I hope that this year it will work better.  Plan to arrive sometime on Wednesday afternoon so that we can start the school at about 6:30 in the evening.  Right now, I don’t know if any food will be available, so I would think that getting some food prior to the meeting would be in order.  Thursday, we will start with our flying activities and fly as much as the weather and available daylight will allow up until mid afternoon on Friday when we will depart for MAF.  We will try to get into MAF early enough that you can get registered before they close down for the day.

I have included a registration form and a sheet that lists the insurance requirements needed if you fly a non-CAF aircraft at the clinic.  Your insurance company will usually provide you with the required statements without cost but you need to call them about it several days in advance in order to get it done.  Plan ahead.

I have been in contact with Bob Stenevik about the air show and he assures me that we will be included in the air show this year rather than being banished to a pre air show fill in role.  Bob said that the “America Trains For War” segment will open the show so we will fly early but at least we will part of the show.  We are working on the parking problem that we have experienced for the last several years, but I don’t have anything specific on that as yet.  I will let you know as soon as I have more details.

Fly Safe,
